WARNING: Listening to this music doesn't require parental approval. It's a bit of clean rebellion. It keeps your outlook up and your hope alive. It's got strong drums and screaming guitars. It pumps you up and drives your life. It's a hunger for exploration. It chooses the right and returns with honor. It's music you don't have to confess to your bishop.

It's not your parents' "Saturday’s Warrior".

It's "A Joyful Noise"

Lots of things have happened over the last couple of days.

First, after a couple of attempts, I arrived at a mix of "Dance" that I really like. The first one was OK, but the guitars were too tame, then the snare was too hot, and the low toms weren't strong enough. But now it's all there. I'm quite proud of this tune.

And I posted it to the site, but with some major underlying changes. I've decided to share my tunes as mp3's for a while, and not as weedshare. I'm going to try it for a while, and see how it works.

I went to the FCMA workshop yesterday. It was fun, and a wonderful experience, but I'm kinda getting this sense that LDS music is in a transitional phase, and it's floundering a bit. I mean, Julie De Azevedo got up and talked about how low the sales of contemporary artists are, compared to inspirational or sacred. The Pearl Awards seem to be struggling some, and through it all, I'm not sure where I fit into it.

I'm thinking more and more that my role will probably end up simply putting out my tunes on the 'net, playing a few sparse gigs a year, and selling a few CD's.

I have been getting some really cool emails talking about how my music has impacted people, and I'm starting to see that more and more as the value of my art, rather than the sales.

Which makes me question things like sales. Should I even sell my singles via weedshare, or should I just put them out on the web as open license mp3's?

And tonight, I'm getting closer and closer to having a new song done. I cut the vocals to "Dancin' With the Devil", comped them, and then whipped up a basic mix in the headphones. This tune rocks, and rocks HARD. I'm really pleased with it.

Oh, my land...

It has been a seriously, seriously long time since I did anything musical. It has been very frustrating and depressing. Life has gotten in the way, and my motivation has sagged. I've even considered giving it all up. If it weren't for some really special emails I received from a few listeners, I might just have done it, too.

That, and I just kept listening to the roughs of "Lost and Found". There are some really, really good tunes that will be on this CD. Day after day, I drive to work and back, listening to these new tunes and signing along. The ones I've finished, the ones undone. All of them. They keep calling to me!

One of my big frustrations has been getting together with a drummer that can cut the tracks for me. Steve's kit has been down, Morey's not been available.

But today, Jodi let me buy a drum programming pad! And oh, how sweet it is! I was able to sparkle up the tracks for "Dance with the Devil". Then, I put down a synth pad on it as well. The first tracks I've recorded since Christmas! And here it is, spring already.

And tomorrow's the FCMA workshop. I'd hoped to have this tune ready for that, but at least it'll be done by the end of the month for the April website single! Then, I think I'll do "The Things I Do". A couple of rockers in a row! I won't be able to get John in to do horns until the summer. That'll be OK, tho. I'll get some other things done in the meantime.
