WARNING: Listening to this music doesn't require parental approval. It's a bit of clean rebellion. It keeps your outlook up and your hope alive. It's got strong drums and screaming guitars. It pumps you up and drives your life. It's a hunger for exploration. It chooses the right and returns with honor. It's music you don't have to confess to your bishop. It's "A Joyful Noise" |

The Third Time
The chorus came to me first in this one, and the verses later. The layering at the end was the inspiration for the whole tune. It's still my favorite part, by far. I'm amazed that it came together.
The whole message was inspired by the story of the Good Samaritan. Taking care of others isn't always easy. I want to, but I get so wrapped up in my life that I don't notice that others are suffering, often more than I am. My wife is amazing at paying attention to that kind of stuff.

The Third Time
1/17/2008
Can you see him?
Lost in the deep
He can barely keep
His head above the water
Can you see him?
Calling for help
‘cause he can’t save himself
and the sun just keeps getting hotter
Chorus with climb:
And the waves take him down for the first time
And he comes up gasping for air
And the foam washes over for the second time
Can you see him floating there
What’s goin down
Is that he’s gonna drown
Because he’s goin down
For the third time
Throw him a line
If you get there in time
Before he slips through the brine
For the third time
Can you save him?
You can see where he’s been
Turn your boat to the wind
And rush off to the rescue
Can you save him?
If he isn’t dead
Then full speed ahead
And see how life can test you
Chorus with climb
What’s goin down
Is that he’s gonna drown
Because he’s goin down
For the third time
It’s time to be brave
‘cause he needs to be saved
‘fore he’s dashed ‘neath the waves
for the third time
Bridge
Maybe you can’t walk on the water
Maybe you can’t calm the seas
And the wind might not obey the sound of your voice
But you can throw the life ring if you please
Repeat Chorus to end

The Third Time - Vocals
So, now all that's left is the mix. It's gonna be a messy one, too, with all those backing vocal parts layered into the ending. I swear, it's gonna be a mess to keep it all clear! :-)

MARK HANSEN MUSIC - JOYFUL NOISES, AUGUST 2009
There are some good tunes on it. Some that I still like and listen to, like "A Joyful Noise/Rockshow", "Long-Haired Weirdo", and "Blues for a Nation". Those were the days! Those tunes rocked back then, too!
But nonetheless, we keep moving forward! Since then, I've released two CD's: "One United Generation", and "Lost and Found", and am well on my way to finishing a third, "The Third Time". You can hear samples at http://markhansenmusic.com/custformnew329907.html
And now, ladies and gentlemen:
THE TOP 10 THINGS THOUGHT WHEN CONSIDERING BUYING MARK HANSEN'S CD:"LOST AND FOUND"
#10 - Does this sound anything like Afterglow? I really like them...
#9 - Maybe if I buy those kids this CD, they'll finally listen to something other than the Jonas Brothers...
#8 - Well, he might not look as good as the guys in Aerosmith, but at least he's cleaner...
#7 - If he'd just put his CD's in Mormon Tabernacle Choir shells, he might finally get into Deseret Book.
#6 - Who is this "Mark Hansen" guy? And what's he doing in my inbox?
#5 - Well, I already own everything Michael McLean has ever done...
#4 - Well, ok, it's rock, but is it "spirchal"?
#3 - Maybe now I'll be able to listen to the songs without that annoying voice-tag at the end!
#2 - No, I won't buy it. It'll only encourage him!
#1 - ...And really, what's up with that stupid robot?
Buy your copy of Mark Hansen's "Lost and Found" today and avoid the rush! 11 great songs of powerful, energetic, and uplifting LDS rock, pristinely mastered, with no voice-tags! All CD's unconditionally guaranteed.

NEW SONGS
I've been working a lot on some new recordings, and I'm really excited about them. One is called "The Third Time" and it's about watching out for other people. It'll likely be the title track for my next collection. Another is called "Martyrs", and it's gonna be a huge, powerful anthem. Keep up with the recordings at http://markhansenmusic.blogspot.com!

Now, all I have to do is finish comping the lead vocals, and mix. That's it. I could have it done in a week, maybe...

I'd hoped to come home and cut some vocals, but at the end of the day, I was shot, my voice was shot, and I just relaxed with my boys. Jodi's still out of town tonight, so I hope I'll be able to get some singing in.
If I do, I'm hoping I'll finally finish the keeper harmonies for "Third Time". That tune's been waiting to drop for, about, ever, I think. Once the harmonies are done, I can comp the vocals and mix it. I could have it done in a week.
Of course, I've been saying that for about six months, now... :-)
